Great Plains Pointer Rescue accepts German Shorthaired Pointers and GSP mixes when foster homes are available. Because we are foster-based, acceptance depends on foster availability, the dog’s location, and a temperament assessment. We do not accept aggressive dogs or those with a bite history, and completing a surrender form does not guarantee acceptance.
Steps to surrender a dog
- Complete the surrender form with the dog’s background, behavior, and needs.
- Email photos to intake@greatpointers.org. Clear photos are required to process a request.
- Provide vet records: have your veterinarian email medical records to intake@greatpointers.org if available.
- Microchip release: if the dog is microchipped, submit a signed release form before transfer.
What happens next
A volunteer reviews the information and contacts you if the dog could be a match for our program. If accepted, we work with you on transfer logistics. Because foster homes are limited, there may be a waiting list, but you will receive updates on progress.
Our commitment
GPPR provides a stable, safe environment for surrendered dogs. Every adoption includes a contract requiring dogs to return to GPPR if the adopter cannot keep them, which protects each dog’s welfare for life.
