Great Plains Pointer Rescue is a volunteer-run, foster-based nonprofit dedicated to German Shorthaired Pointers and GSP mixes. Our dogs live in real homes, not kennels, so we understand their personalities and needs before placing them.
How our rescue works
Our model is simple and intentional.
- Dogs live in foster homes throughout Nebraska and Iowa
- We specialize in German Shorthaired Pointers and understand the realities of the breed
- We prioritize good matches over quick placements
- We are 100 percent volunteer run, so resources go directly to the dogs
This approach takes more effort, but it leads to better outcomes and fewer failed adoptions.

Is adopting from GPPR right for you?
German Shorthaired Pointers are smart, athletic, and intense. They are not a good fit for every household. Adopting from GPPR may be right for you if:

Fosters make this rescue possible
We cannot help dogs without foster homes. As a foster, GPPR covers veterinary care and provides guidance and support while you provide the day-to-day care, structure, and patience that allow dogs to succeed.
Support the work
Rescue is expensive. Veterinary care, training, transportation, and emergency needs add up quickly. Donations ensure that cost is never the reason a dog is turned away.
