About German Shorthaired Pointers
German Shorthaired Pointers are intelligent, energetic, and highly driven dogs. They need daily exercise and mental stimulation, structure and consistent training, and regular social interaction with people and compatible dogs. They are a poor match for inactive households or anyone seeking a low-maintenance companion.
Preparing for a GSP
- Exercise: plan for one to two hours of structured activity every day.
- Training: these dogs respond well to positive reinforcement and may need help with obedience, recall, or specific behaviors.
- Home: indoor living with designated play and rest areas.
- Resident pets: any existing dogs must be spayed or neutered.
